Peacocks (Peacocks on the Fence), Northwood    Updated 12/12/2011    More
Peacocks purple bowlPeacocks stippled
The Peacocks pattern has two birds sitting on a fence--thus the alternate name. Most have Northwood's ribbed back although a few are known with basketweave or plain back. This makes little difference in the price, although another variation does; pieces with a stippled background (above right) are valued more highly. There are two edge treatments, ruffled and pie crust edge (PCE). Most measure 8 to 9 inches across. Peacocks bowls have been faked.

Peacocks plate Peacocks plates are found in a smaller range of colors than the bowls, and also seen in the variant with stippling as shown here. Again, depending on the color, they may have ribbed, rayed, or plain backs although, for some reason a few have Northwood's basketweave back. Plates measure about 9 inches across.
