| Persian Medallion, with it's ring of embroidered medallions, displays a definite Moorish influence. The pattern was produced from about 1911 to the early 1920s. Nine-inch plates, like the one shown above in green, are quite hard to find. There are also 6-inch plates, 7-7 1/2 inch plates, and very rare chop plates. The bonbons are distinguished by the wide range of colors in which they are found. The one shown is in red, a fairly common color in this pattern. The Persian Medallion pattern was used on the interior of some Wreath of Roses punch sets. To view Persian Medallion rarities, click here. Some of these early plates did not have the Fenton logo. Because of this, they are often thought to be of the classic era. So, be very cautious when buying these amethyst plates--most are not old. Glen Thistlewood, in commenting about these amethyst/purple 9-inch plates, says "The one in current consideration has a Bearded Berry back -- and the pattern is very different from the old version of Bearded Berry. On the old one, the fruits and stem are set onto a plain background. But on the newer re-issue, there is a complex "scale-filler" everywhere (it looks a bit like veins or a web or perhaps crackle). There are other small differences too. The re-issued Bearded Berry is clearly different to the Classic, old Bearded Berry -- but possibly because it is a pattern that many of us don't give a second glance to, it can be missed." |
