Four Pillars, Northwood/Millersburg
A classic design but still confused with other patterns because of its simplicity. Northwood made Four Pillars in two base sizes: a standard size with a 3 1/8 inch base, and a small size with a 2 7/8 inch base. There is a third size of Four Pillars with a 3 1/4 inch base which is a standard size but from an entirely different mold and belived to be Millersburg, including Howard Furniture advertising in the base.

Don't settle for a damaged or inferior Four Pillars vase in aqua opal. This is the most frequently found color so there are plenty to choose from.

The examples are one in a Kelly green that sold in 1998 for $900 and a very short blue example--just 6 3/4 inches tall.

This photo of two Four Pillars vases was sent to me by Mark Kessler in 2019. He purchased these on eBay a while earlier. Both have damage to the feet. What's unusual about them? The color: they're in celeste blue, a rare color in the pattern.

Above is a most interesting Four Pillars vase that has been whimisied into a candy dish. It is owned by Faith Perrin. I've never seen or heard of any other examples of this shape. It must have been thrill for the glass maker to think of this shaping.

This is what the base of a Four Pillars vase with Howard Furniture advertising looks like. Photo from Carl and Eunice Booker.
